Store Manager- Tewksbury

Summary/Objective

Responsible for store operations and the organizational structure of the location.  This entails maximizing sales and profitability coupled with meeting all customer needs and demands.

Financial Functions:

  • Assists ownership in establishing company's financial goals and budgets.
  • Helps establish and ensure margin contributions for all departments.
  • Guides purchasing and manages inventory control for seasonal and non-seasonal products throughout the year.
  • Analyzes sales, purchasing, labor and overhead daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Maintains security, control and theft awareness with staff and managers.

Administrative Functions:

  • Communicates administrative functions on a timely basis, weekly reporting, markdowns, specials, promotions, sales, payroll, accounts payable and more.
  • Orders and maintains proper inventories of office supplies.

Human Resources Functions:

  • Identifies personnel needs and works with human resources to schedule, hire, fire and layoff as needed.
  • Advises and assists in training all employees on OSHA & Right to Know laws & regulations.
  • Reviews and implements employee compensation plan.
  • Conducts individual performance evaluations on all employees.

Managerial Functions:

  • Communicates all financial functions to all deptartment managers.
  • Works directly on the retail sales floor providing direction, leadership and support to all employees.
  • Assures proper service of customers, proper inventories merchandised to supply customer demand.
  • Provides daily work assignments, delegates duties and trains department managers and key personnel to assume these duties.
  • Functions in an oversight capacity to each department and establishes lines of communication throughout the store.
  • Holds regular staff meetings to properly communicate department, store and overall company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures store is kept clean and presentable.

Marketing Functions:

  • Assists and oversees implementation of annual marketing plan.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with local media and organizations in the community.
  • Executes the merchandise and marketing plan throughout the store with managers and key personnel.
  • Attends appropriate trade shows, industry meetings and organizations to keep informed of the industry and business environments.

Maintenance Functions:

  • Oversees the maintenance of vehicles, equipment & facilities management.
  • Enforce OSHA regulations.
  • Maximize efficiency of all overhead costs where applicable.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies.

Competencies

  • College degree or high level of education preferred.
  • Five years garden center management experience.
  • Two years accounting/financial experience or college level classes preferred.
  • Excellent planning and communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills — able to work with, communicate, motivate, and direct people to satisfactorily carry out the company's objectives and meet customer service requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • General industry knowledge.
  • Knowledge of sales & marketing concepts

Work Environment

This job operates in an indoor and outdoor retail business environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. You must be willing and able to serve in any weather condition, out of doors.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing repetitively throughout the entire shift. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
