Organic Plant Healthcare Specialist

Mahoney’s SafeLawns, a division of Mahoney’s Garden Center, is seeking a Plant Healthcare Specialist to help build our organic plant care program. The candidate should be someone with a can-do attitude and a self-starter who can work independently. This is an exciting opportunity for growth and development!

Primary responsibilities will include sales calls and estimating, as well as timely visits to our clients’ properties to care for their landscape plants by monitoring and diagnosing insect, disease and cultural plant issues then choosing and applying appropriate products and treatments needed. Ability to communicate with clients in a professional manner, complete diagnostic reports and run spray and application equipment is essential.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect and treat landscape plantings for insect/disease activity through monthly site visits.

  • Provides ongoing monitoring of landscape plants to provide healthy beautiful landscapes

  • Completes production paperwork and leaves customer instructions for plant care

  • Return customer calls, emails and inquiries in a timely and professional manner

  • Assists in sales to existing and prospective customers

  • Maintains company vehicle and equipment through cleanliness, safety and general maintenance

  • Performs other assigned duties as they relate to the operation and care of the company

Job Requirements/Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma (or GED)

  • Certificate or degree in Entomology, Plant Sciences, Horticulture or equivalent experience preferred

  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license in good standing

  • Must have a M.A. Pesticide License or ability to achieve one within 60 days of hire

  • Experience with Organic maintenance a plus

  • Current MCH and NOFA Organic Land Care (AOLCP) certifications a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of plant identification

  • Identify pest and disease issues on site and perform sustainable and organic methods of control.

  • Read and understand product labels, application rates and calibration techniques.
